About the Basic rgb PCB

Basic rgb is an open source ESP32 PCB design by FromDarkHell, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 49.5 × 37.3 mm, with 7 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-SMD, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 2 resistors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

A complete reimplementation of the LEGO Dimensions toypad spec using embedded C++

This project is a simple ESP32-S3-based controller for (PS3/Wii U/PS4) LEGO Dimensions playpads. Note: This project does not emulate a full playpad. It only provides remote control of the LED colors via a web interface.

- Control the colors via a basic HTML webpage - (Semi) real-time HTTP logs of USB packets / etc

How To: - Connect the USB breakout board D-/D+ pins to your ESP32 - Splice a USB cable (or use a USB C/etc breakout board), and connect the VUSB and GND to the ESP32 and the USB Breakout Board.

Basic rgb: common questions

What microcontroller does the Basic rgb use?

The Basic rgb is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-SMD, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Basic rgb PCB?

The Basic rgb measures 49.5 × 37.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Basic rgb?

7 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Basic rgb design files?

From the FromDarkHell/LegoDimensionsRGB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Basic rgb design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with FromDarkHell. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Basic rgb without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
