About the Iot badge legacy PCB

Iot badge legacy is an open source ESP32 PCB design by galopago, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70 × 100 mm, with 75 components from 45 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Ai-Thinker-Ra-02-alt, DISPLAY_SSD1306_128x64_I2C, AMS1117-3.3, CH340G and ME2188_PCB_MODULE. By type, the board carries 24 resistors, 14 capacitors, 9 ICs, 8 switches, 6 diodes and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the rf & radio, iot & wireless and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

Electronic conference badge for programming conventions, hacking events, etc.

Open Source (designed in KiCad), schematic files, PCB and GERBER files open, free and available Comfortable wearable badge, no components on the back side. Max size 10 x 10 cm to take advantage of cost reductions of most PCB makers. Can be powered by a 3.2 v LiFePO4 AAA size battery * Compatible with TinyGS firmware for reception of LoRa satellites. No modifications needed!

Iot badge legacy: common questions

What microcontroller does the Iot badge legacy use?

The Iot badge legacy is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Iot badge legacy PCB?

The Iot badge legacy measures 70 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Iot badge legacy?

75 components, from 45 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Iot badge legacy design files?

From the galopago/iot-badge-legacy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Iot badge legacy design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with galopago. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Iot badge legacy without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
