Turning my wired mess into a wireless mess
A project to convert a wired keyboard into Bluetooth with the ESP32-S3
My wiring is a mess. I've loved wireless peripherals because it removes the need to wire things at all! I've also been terribly annoyed with having to haul a long wire just to plug my keyboard in at hackathons. Worse, my laptop only has USB-C ports so I always have to carry an adapter.
Build the project and add an 18650 battery into the battery holder. Connect an FTDI or ESP-Prog to the 4 header pins. Pins are mapped RX, TX, EN, BOOT. Plug it in to a keyboard. Search in the Bluetooth menu for 'ESP32 Keyboard' and pair…

Kbd bt adapter: common questions
What microcontroller does the Kbd bt adapter use?
The Kbd bt adapter is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Kbd bt adapter PCB?
The Kbd bt adapter measures 130 × 24.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Kbd bt adapter?
37 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Kbd bt adapter design files?
From the GuyOnWifi/kbd-bt-adapter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Kbd bt adapter design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with GuyOnWifi. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Kbd bt adapter without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
