About the SPAR PCB

SPAR is an open source STM32 PCB design by HazzerTheGreat, published on GitHub. It is a 6-layer board measuring 48 × 58 mm, with 104 components from 45 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32H743VITx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the ICM-42688-P, LM66200DRLR, BMP280, SM03B-SRSS-TB(LF)(SN) and AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 52 capacitors, 16 resistors, 15 connectors, 13 ICs, 4 inductors and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the robotics & motion and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A flight controller for fixed wing UAVs based on the STM32H7 and designed to run betaflight or INAV

This is a flight controller primarily designed for fixed wing aircraft (or quadcopters etc) that is designed to run either BetaFlight, INAV or ArduPilot firmware. It handles flight stabilization, OSD, control of servos, waypoints, data logging and anything else any other flight controller can do. This flight controller has an STM32H743 which is an extremely capable MCU with a blazing fast speed of up to 480MHz. Most likely overkill for the majority of applications but it can accomodate for the most demanding projects. I made it as I was interested in the design of such systems and also enjoy…

SPAR: common questions

What microcontroller does the SPAR use?

The SPAR is built around the STM32H743VITx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the SPAR PCB?

The SPAR measures 48 × 58 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SPAR?

104 components, from 45 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SPAR design files?

From the HazzerTheGreat/SPAR repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SPAR design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with HazzerTheGreat. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the SPAR without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
