About the OakBridge MkI PCB

OakBridge MkI is an open source ESP32 PCB design by HighCarlSagan, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 91.9 × 72 mm, with 78 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, TLV1117LV33DCYR and MB85RS4MTYPF-G-BCE1. By type, the board carries 35 resistors, 19 capacitors, 8 switches, 5 LEDs, 4 ICs and 3 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

A tactile PC dashboard — ESP32-S3, mechanical keys, IPS display, and a wooden enclosure.

I spend a lot of my day staring at terminals and dashboards. I wanted a small, tactile thing on the desk that could show me what my PC was doing without me having to alt-tab to find out — CPU temp during a long compile, what's playing on Spotify, calendar at a glance — and let me poke at it with real keys instead of yet another window.

OakBridge MkI: common questions

What microcontroller does the OakBridge MkI use?

The OakBridge MkI is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N16R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the OakBridge MkI PCB?

The OakBridge MkI measures 91.9 × 72 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OakBridge MkI?

78 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OakBridge MkI design files?

From the HighCarlSagan/OakBridge_MkI repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OakBridge MkI design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the OakBridge MkI without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
