About the Bifrost right trackball PCB

Bifrost right trackball is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by hringdrifi, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 18.6 × 20.2 mm, with 12 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the SRV05-4. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 connector and 1 resistor.

This is an incomplete and unverified work in progress. Do not order boards or rely on this design without independently reviewing the schematic, layout, footprints, mechanical fit, and electrical connections.

The project was initially created from a Smiðr export, then received substantial additional modifications. It is no longer an unmodified Smiðr export.

Bifrost right trackball: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bifrost right trackball use?

The Bifrost right trackball is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Bifrost right trackball PCB?

The Bifrost right trackball measures 18.6 × 20.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bifrost right trackball?

12 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bifrost right trackball design files?

From the hringdrifi/bifrost repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bifrost right trackball design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which hringdrifi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Bifrost right trackball without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
