Bifrost right PCB layout, top view — open source Nordic nRF board by hringdrifi

About the Bifrost right PCB

Bifrost right is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by hringdrifi, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 142.9 × 80.3 mm, with 36 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the SRV05-4 and TP4057. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 8 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 transistors, 3 inductors and 2 test points.

This is an incomplete and unverified work in progress. Do not order boards or rely on this design without independently reviewing the schematic, layout, footprints, mechanical fit, and electrical connections.

The project was initially created from a Smiðr export, then received substantial additional modifications. It is no longer an unmodified Smiðr export.

Bifrost right: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bifrost right use?

The Bifrost right is built around the MDBT50Q-1MV2, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Bifrost right PCB?

The Bifrost right measures 142.9 × 80.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.2 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bifrost right?

36 components, from 27 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bifrost right design files?

From the hringdrifi/bifrost repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bifrost right design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which hringdrifi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Bifrost right without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
