About the Chess Card PCB

Chess Card is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Hung-Chi970104, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 55 × 85 mm, with 68 components from 37 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the RT6150BGQW, NT3H2111W0FHKH and W25Q64JVXGIQ. By type, the board carries 28 capacitors, 17 resistors, 7 diodes, 4 ICs, 4 switches and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Business-card-scale RP2040 and e-paper hardware prototype for a portable chess interface.

After building my Tic-Tac-Toe business card, I decided to build a more advanced version that allows users to play chess, compete online through radio, and even compete against AI!

Chess Card: common questions

What microcontroller does the Chess Card use?

The Chess Card is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Chess Card PCB?

The Chess Card measures 55 × 85 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Chess Card?

68 components, from 37 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Chess Card design files?

From the Hung-Chi970104/chess_card repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Chess Card design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Hung-Chi970104. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Chess Card without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
