About the ULX4M-CM4-HAT
ULX4M-CM4-HAT is an open source ESP32 PCB design by intergalaktik, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 65 × 56 mm, with 37 components from 19 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LM1117-3.3 and FT231XS. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 12 resistors, 4 diodes, 3 ICs, 3 switches and 2 connectors.
It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts, audio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

On V1 we have FTDI to FPGA working and we can upload bitstream to FPGA, serial passtrue is also working. For some reason it was hard to put ESP32 into bootloader mode, and I was not able to load micropython while shiled was connected to FPGA. After doing that directly (bricking pins on shield FTDI TX > ESP32 RX, ESP32 TX > FTDI RX, GPIO0 > GND) I have succesfully loaded micropython on ESP32. WROOM is still not perfect fit as it has low memory. WROWER can access shared SD card, and flash FPGA over WIFI.

ULX4M-CM4-HAT: common questions
What microcontroller does the ULX4M-CM4-HAT use?
The ULX4M-CM4-HAT is built around the ESP32, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the ULX4M-CM4-HAT?
The ULX4M-CM4-HAT measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the ULX4M-CM4-HAT?
37 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the ULX4M-CM4-HAT design files?
From the intergalaktik/ULX4M-CM4-HAT repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the ULX4M-CM4-HAT design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which intergalaktik chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the ULX4M-CM4-HAT without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
