About the TranspOtterNG PCB

TranspOtterNG is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Jana-Marie, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 45 mm, with 59 components from 32 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117, URB4805YMD-6WR3, RFM69HCW and PCF8574. By type, the board carries 26 resistors, 13 capacitors, 8 connectors, 5 ICs, 2 transistors and 2 switches.

From the project

Next Generation of TranspOtter.

This PCB will connect the mainboard to the Nunchuck, Gametrak and the Display. Also it will provide 5V and 3.3V as well as the emergency stop.

- Add ESP and RFM69 - Fit connectors - Check size - Add an Otter

TranspOtterNG: common questions

What microcontroller does the TranspOtterNG use?

The TranspOtterNG is built around the ESP-12E, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the TranspOtterNG PCB?

The TranspOtterNG measures 100 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the TranspOtterNG?

59 components, from 32 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the TranspOtterNG design files?

From the Jana-Marie/transpOtterNG repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the TranspOtterNG design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Jana-Marie. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the TranspOtterNG without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
