About the Thermo trace PCB

Thermo trace is an open source ESP32 PCB design by jayis1, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 45 mm, with 5 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the STM32G474RET6, AD8331ARZ, LMG1210RVRT and LM5022MM.

It belongs with the power & battery and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

This folder contains the KiCad project files for the Thermo Trace pocket DSC.

- The PCB layout is a placeholder. A real layout would need careful thermal isolation between the DSC heater cells and the PCB/electronics. - The heater cells should be mounted on a ceramic (Al₂O₃) spacer with an air gap to the PCB. - The ADS122U04 analog inputs should be routed away from the PWM heater traces to minimize noise coupling. - The 5V heater rail should be on a separate plane from the 3.3V logic rail, with star-ground topology.

Thermo trace: common questions

What microcontroller does the Thermo trace use?

The Thermo trace is built around the ESP32-C3-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Thermo trace PCB?

The Thermo trace measures 50 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Thermo trace?

5 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Thermo trace design files?

From the jayis1/SoC-Device-Inventions repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Thermo trace design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with jayis1. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Thermo trace without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
