AVML stands for Arduino Video Module L, though I never really refer to it by that long name. It's a eurorack format module that uses an Arduino Nano to generate video in the LZX patchable video format. I originally made the module to be a text generator and pattern generator, but it includes several different modes by default and can be programmed to do whatever you want (within its abilities). The microcontroller at the heart of the Arduino Nano is not the most capable microcontroller, but there are a lot of Arduino programming…

AVML: PCB1 & PCB2: common questions

What microcontroller does the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 use?

The AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 is built around the Arduino_Nano_v3.x, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 PCB?

The AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 measures 37.5 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2?

74 components, from 47 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 design files?

From the joem/avml-hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with joem. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the AVML: PCB1 & PCB2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
