About the Microphone PCB

Microphone is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by joshitha-c, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33.3 × 36.5 mm, with 28 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2P6, W25Q128JVE and LD1117S12TR_SOT223. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the audio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

A compact USB digital microphone development board built around the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller and the STMicroelectronics MP34DT05TR-A digital MEMS microphone.

A compact USB digital microphone development board built around the Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller and the STMicroelectronics MP34DT05TR-A digital MEMS microphone.

The board captures audio using a PDM microphone, converts it to PCM on the RP2040, and streams audio over USB to a host computer. It serves as a reference platform for USB Audio Class (UAC) applications, embedded audio processing, and voice-enabled IoT projects.

Microphone: common questions

What microcontroller does the Microphone use?

The Microphone is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Microphone PCB?

The Microphone measures 33.3 × 36.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Microphone?

28 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Microphone design files?

From the joshitha-c/microphone repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Microphone design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with joshitha-c. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Microphone without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
