About the KbxIRBlaster PCB

KbxIRBlaster is an open source ESP32 PCB design by kbx81, published on GitHub under the CC-BY-SA-4.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 69.9 × 66.5 mm, with 86 components from 43 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3, FT232RL and TSOP382XX. By type, the board carries 30 diodes, 25 resistors, 9 capacitors, 8 connectors, 7 transistors and 5 ICs.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

ESP32-based IR MegaBlaster!

Just another ESP32-based IR Blaster. It was designed with ESPHome in mind but should work fine with Tasmota or any other app, really.

I've created four versions: - v4 - Based on ESP32-C6 - Nearly identical to v3 (below) but with minor adjustments/enhancements - v3 - Based on ESP32-C3 - Disc (smaller) - One header for (an) off-board emitter(s) - Pads for 24 IR LEDs: - Eight top-emitting surface mount - Eight side-emitting surface mount around the edges of the disc - Eight 5 mm LEDs for extra "throw" - v2 - Based on ESP32 - Disc - One header for (an) off-board emitter(s) - Pads for 16 IR LEDs…

KbxIRBlaster: common questions

What microcontroller does the KbxIRBlaster use?

The KbxIRBlaster is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the KbxIRBlaster PCB?

The KbxIRBlaster measures 69.9 × 66.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the KbxIRBlaster?

86 components, from 43 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the KbxIRBlaster design files?

From the kbx81/kbxIRBlaster repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the KbxIRBlaster design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CC-BY-SA-4.0 license, which kbx81 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the KbxIRBlaster without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
