About the MyoCell PCB

MyoCell is an open source ESP32 PCB design by KenKadilar, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a board, with 25 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32 DOIT DEVKIT V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the CC/CV buck, INA219, 7805, TCRT5000 and DRV8833. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 6 ICs, 4 diodes, 4 capacitors, 1 module and 1 transistor.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

An autonomous sorting cell built around a myoelectric gripper. An object arrives in a magazine, an overhead camera classifies it by colour, the gripper grasps it at a grip force taught by a muscle flex, a rotation arm carries it to the matching bin and releases, and the cell loops until the magazine is empty. A soft PLC runs the sequence and a latching E-stop; the grip force is held by a closed-loop controller; a design-of-experiments run characterizes force against object damage.

MyoCell: common questions

What microcontroller does the MyoCell use?

The MyoCell is built around the ESP32 DOIT DEVKIT V1, from the ESP32 family.

How many components are on the MyoCell?

25 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MyoCell design files?

From the KenKadilar/MyoCell repository on GitHub, which has the schematic and a netlist; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MyoCell design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which KenKadilar chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MyoCell without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
