About the AC30 PCB

AC30 is an open source PCB design by linuxha, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 173 × 97.5 mm, with 65 components from 28 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 4053, 4049, 4013, 4023 and 555. By type, the board carries 24 resistors, 10 ICs, 9 capacitors, 8 diodes, 7 transistors and 5 connectors.

A reproduction SWTPC AC-30 Cassette Interface

I have a couple of Motorola MC6800, MC6802, and MC6809 machines from the 1970's. And I wanted to setup a typical cassette plater/recorder setup to save and load code written on these machines.

Note: 2026/10/08 - This is my go around with Claude, Kicad and FreeCAD and creating a PCB to be sent off as gerbers. I have a lot of inspecting to do. But for a 1st go this is scary impressive.

AC30: common questions

How big is the AC30 PCB?

The AC30 measures 173 × 97.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the AC30?

65 components, from 28 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the AC30 design files?

From the linuxha/AC30 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the AC30 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with linuxha. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
