About the Edrumulus PCB

Edrumulus is an open source ESP32 PCB design by llescano, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 128.9 × 80 mm, with 81 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the 6N138. By type, the board carries 43 resistors, 27 diodes, 9 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the audio and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

ESP32-S3 E-Drum Trigger System with Positional Sensing - Port of Edrumulus algorithms

Edrumulus is a high quality Open Source e-drum trigger module software which runs on a micro processor.

Project requirements: - The trigger performance shall be similar to the Roland TD-27. - Overall latency should be as small as possible. The goal is to achieve a latency < 10 ms. - The required analog front end design shall be as simple as possible using the fewest number of parts possible.

Edrumulus: common questions

What microcontroller does the Edrumulus use?

The Edrumulus is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Edrumulus PCB?

The Edrumulus measures 128.9 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Edrumulus?

81 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Edrumulus design files?

From the llescano/esp32-drumpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Edrumulus design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with llescano. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Edrumulus without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
