About the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) PCB

ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) is an open source ESP32 PCB design by marcelpetrick, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 30 × 34 mm, with 43 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C6-MINI-1-N4, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the SHT45-AD1F, TPS62840DLC, BQ24074RGTR and USBLC6-2SC6. By type, the board carries 18 resistors, 14 capacitors, 5 ICs, 2 connectors, 1 transistor and 1 switch.

It belongs with the sensors, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Test for my very first custom PCB design for a ESP32-based temperature sensor

A battery-powered indoor temperature and humidity node, developed as one electrical platform in two physical implementations so that the cost of compactness can be measured instead of guessed.

Build 5 of each, put them next to a reference instrument, and let the data pick the design. The decision gate is written down in docs/50-thermal-ab-test-plan.md before the boards exist, including the thresholds under which A wins.

ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact): common questions

What microcontroller does the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) use?

The ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) is built around the ESP32-C6-MINI-1-N4, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) PCB?

The ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) measures 30 × 34 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact)?

43 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) design files?

From the marcelpetrick/sensorly-unhinged repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which marcelpetrick chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ENV Sensor - Variant A (Compact) without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
