About the Kbdrelay PCB
Kbdrelay is an open source ESP32 PCB design by mdthorpe, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88 × 55 mm, with 18 components from 10 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-ZERO, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors, 1 fuse and 1 diode.
It belongs with the displays & leds and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery, and the repository also holds 1 earlier revision of it.

Project for replicating USB HID messages over SPI
Single-sided, through-hole KiCad carrier PCB that hosts two socketed Waveshare ESP32-S3-Zero modules (KBD + TGT) and joins them into the kbdrelay bridge.
v0.1 is shipped and hardware-verified (tag v0.1-board). The pcb-carrier-board spec is closed as the v0.1 record — do not amend it. New work happens in the v0.2 spec.
- Use project-local libraries (Project-scope in KiCad) so the design is self-contained for anyone who clones the repo. - Board is single copper layer (bottom), all discretes through-hole. Jumper-link budget was ≤ ~8; v0.1 shipped with zero — the hand route needed none, at…

Kbdrelay: common questions
What microcontroller does the Kbdrelay use?
The Kbdrelay is built around the ESP32-S3-ZERO, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Kbdrelay PCB?
The Kbdrelay measures 88 × 55 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Kbdrelay?
18 components, from 10 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Kbdrelay design files?
From the mdthorpe/kbdrelay repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Kbdrelay design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mdthorpe. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Kbdrelay without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
