About the Rgb switcher PCB

Rgb switcher is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by michaelobed, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 360 × 200 mm, with 129 components from 49 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328PB-A, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the L7805, SN74CBT3244CPW, 74HC138, 74HC04 and 74HC238. By type, the board carries 32 transistors, 22 connectors, 20 switches, 20 capacitors, 16 ICs and 10 resistors.

It belongs with the audio and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

An open-source switcher for analogue RGBS video, so you don't have to.

Here's the KiCad design file for the board. I've included all required libraries as a lot of the components I had to find or make from scratch. I've also included a bill of materials (BOM) for reference, made to be compatible with JLCPCB's particular format. Bear in mind that you don't absolutely have to use the parts referenced in there if they aren't in stock on LCSC, or if you can source them from elsewhere, or if better/cheaper alternatives will work.

Rgb switcher: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rgb switcher use?

The Rgb switcher is built around the ATMEGA328PB-A, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Rgb switcher PCB?

The Rgb switcher measures 360 × 200 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rgb switcher?

129 components, from 49 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rgb switcher design files?

From the michaelobed/rgb-switcher repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rgb switcher design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which michaelobed chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rgb switcher without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
