About the DMX CTRL PCB

DMX CTRL is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by michar71, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 100 mm, with 43 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-01, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the ChinaBluePill, uA7805 and RS485_Transeiver. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 10 transistors, 9 connectors, 4 ICs, 3 capacitors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

DMX512 Controller for light installations based on Bluepill STM32F103 Board

There are currently standard solutions for light control that fill specific needs: - DMX512 compatible stage lighting ($13 - $ 300) usually with Full RGB control and maybe XYZ Control - Custom solutions for complex installations using WS1812 Strips (Fadecandy and others). This for Example: http://www.deniznicoleart.com/ - Progammable light controllers that can play back preprogrammed patterns that can get triggered by DMX512 (Chinese closed source products)

DMX CTRL: common questions

What microcontroller does the DMX CTRL use?

The DMX CTRL is built around the ESP-01, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the DMX CTRL PCB?

The DMX CTRL measures 50 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DMX CTRL?

43 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DMX CTRL design files?

From the michar71/DMX_CTRL repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DMX CTRL design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with michar71. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the DMX CTRL without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
