About the Meshboy PCB

Meshboy is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Milk-Cool, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 51 × 60.7 mm, with 46 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the HELTEC_HT-CT62, W25Q16JVSS, NCP1117IST33T3G, TXS0108EPWR and TXS0104EPWR. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 8 ICs, 8 resistors, 3 connectors, 3 switches and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the retro computing, rf & radio and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

a meshtastic gameboy cartridge

this is a cartridge that lets you chat in your local meshtastic network using your gameboy! it's got two antenna slots, first of which has to be a 2.4 ghz antenna and the second of which should be a lora antenna (with the frequency depending on the HT-CT62 model that you use). it's also got a ROM emulator with a custom ROM built specifically for this hardware that allows you to interface with the meshtastic controller chip, which in this case is an ESP32C3! and all of that runs on a gameboy!! isn't that just cool?

Meshboy: common questions

What microcontroller does the Meshboy use?

The Meshboy is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Meshboy PCB?

The Meshboy measures 51 × 60.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 0.8 mm thick.

How many components are on the Meshboy?

46 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Meshboy design files?

From the Milk-Cool/meshboy repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Meshboy design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Milk-Cool chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Meshboy without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
