About the Chicken door PCB

Chicken door is an open source ESP32 PCB design by pavelkejik, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 108.1 × 67 mm, with 85 components from 46 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the L6201PS, TPD4E02B04DQA, AMS1117-3.3, MAX485E and TCST1103. By type, the board carries 31 resistors, 23 capacitors, 10 ICs, 7 connectors, 7 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Automatic chicken coop door with Wi-Fi and ESP-NOW communication.

Door firmware is C++/Arduino on FreeRTOS; the web interface is Vite + Vue 3 + Vuetify served directly from on-board LittleFS.

Each accessory ships its own OTA-updatable firmware and pairs with one click via the Web UI. Status appears alongside the door dashboard.

Chicken door: common questions

What microcontroller does the Chicken door use?

The Chicken door is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Chicken door PCB?

The Chicken door measures 108.1 × 67 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Chicken door?

85 components, from 46 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Chicken door design files?

From the pavelkejik/chicken-door repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Chicken door design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with pavelkejik. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Chicken door without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
