About the Rpi hat

Rpi hat is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by ppetr, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 56.5 mm, with 22 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the CAT24C128, MCP2517FD-xSL and SN65HVD235. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 5 capacitors, 4 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 jumpers and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

SW and HW for an inexpensive home automation communication network based on the CAN bus

Provides CAN interface using the standard D-sub DE-9 connector and our custom RJ-45 connector.

The board should comply to the requirements stated in https://github.com/raspberrypi/hats. If you encounter any violation or deviation, please open an issue.

Rpi hat: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rpi hat use?

The Rpi hat is built around the Raspberry_Pi_2_3, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Rpi hat?

The Rpi hat measures 65 × 56.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rpi hat?

22 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rpi hat design files?

From the ppetr/home-automation-CAN repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rpi hat design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which ppetr chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rpi hat without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
