About the ESP32-Controller PCB

ESP32-Controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Prajesh-Nair, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 152 × 104.5 mm, with 37 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Stick 1, Stick 2, TP4056, DW01A and AP2114H-3.3TRG1. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 6 ICs, 6 capacitors, 4 switches, 3 diodes and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, power & battery and robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

J-Deck is a purpose-built handheld wireless controller. Its primary role is to talk directly to the JATAYU Flight Controller, reading pilot inputs from twin analog joysticks and tactile controls before sending compact control data over ESP-NOW.

But it is not limited to flight. With its ESP32-C3 radio and programmable firmware, J-Deck can be adapted as a controller for robots, RC vehicles, smart-home projects, camera rigs, simulators, or any device that communicates through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or ESP-NOW.

ESP32-Controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP32-Controller use?

The ESP32-Controller is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP32-Controller PCB?

The ESP32-Controller measures 152 × 104.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP32-Controller?

37 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP32-Controller design files?

From the Prajesh-Nair/ESP32-Controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP32-Controller design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Prajesh-Nair. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ESP32-Controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
