About the Canfd mc hardware PCB

Canfd mc hardware is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Prinsessen, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 55 × 32 mm, with 40 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U-N16R8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MCP2518FDT-E/SL, LM5164DDAR and TCAN332GDR. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 9 resistors, 4 ICs, 3 diodes, 2 inductors and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the rf & radio and power & battery designs in this gallery.

canfd-mc-hardware

A 55 × 32 mm, 4-layer board that replaces the LilyGO T-2CANFD in the indian-thunderstroke-canbus project: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U + MCP2518FD + TCAN332G, fed from the bike's permanent 12 V through an LM5164 buck. Same pin map as the LilyGO board, so the firmware runs unchanged (sniffer-t2can environment).

What it drops from the LilyGO board, on purpose: the isolated transceiver (one machine, one ground — the isolation was bridged the moment it was wired in, and its DC-DC was three quarters of the sleep current), the USB connector, the screw terminals, the second CAN channel, and the 120 Ω…

Canfd mc hardware: common questions

What microcontroller does the Canfd mc hardware use?

The Canfd mc hardware is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1U-N16R8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Canfd mc hardware PCB?

The Canfd mc hardware measures 55 × 32 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Canfd mc hardware?

40 components, from 28 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Canfd mc hardware design files?

From the Prinsessen/canfd-mc-hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Canfd mc hardware design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Prinsessen chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Canfd mc hardware without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
