Hardware design files for Soleil, an open source power management and sleep control board for Raspberry Pi

Soleil is a multi-functional solar charger and smart power management board for Rasbperry Pi. It has multiple use cases:

- Off-grid: power your project and simultaneously charge a single cell LiPo battery with a solar panel, up to 10W/16V. - Uninterruptible power supply: Use a standard USB-C cable to power your Pi. In the case of a power outage, the power supply will automatically swap over to the backup battery without missing a beat. - Low power sleep mode: completely cut off power to the Raspberry Pi for a duration of time. An onboard real-time clock will wake your project at the exact…

Soleil hardware: common questions

What microcontroller does the Soleil hardware use?

The Soleil hardware is built around the FH-00339, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Soleil hardware PCB?

The Soleil hardware measures 65 × 30 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.579 mm thick.

How many components are on the Soleil hardware?

66 components, from 34 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Soleil hardware design files?

From the protolux-electronics/soleil_hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Soleil hardware design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which protolux-electronics chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Soleil hardware without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
