About the J-Deck PCB

J-Deck is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Quadcoach, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 152 × 104.5 mm, with 37 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the Stick 1, Stick 2, TP4056, DW01A and AP2114H-3.3TRG1. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 6 ICs, 6 capacitors, 4 switches, 3 diodes and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

JATAYU Controller is a compact ESP32-C3-based drone remote designed for the JATAYU Flight Controller. It uses ESP-NOW for a fast, direct wireless control link, combining dual analog joysticks, tactile buttons, USB-C charging, and protected 1S LiPo power in a custom PCB design

J-Deck is a purpose-built handheld wireless controller. Its primary role is to talk directly to the JATAYU Flight Controller, reading pilot inputs from twin analog joysticks and tactile controls before sending compact control data over ESP-NOW.

But it is not limited to flight. With its ESP32-C3 radio and programmable firmware, J-Deck can be adapted as a controller for robots, RC vehicles, smart-home projects, camera rigs, simulators, or any device that communicates through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or ESP-NOW.

J-Deck: common questions

What microcontroller does the J-Deck use?

The J-Deck is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the J-Deck PCB?

The J-Deck measures 152 × 104.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the J-Deck?

37 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the J-Deck design files?

From the Quadcoach/J-Deck repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the J-Deck design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Quadcoach. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the J-Deck without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
