About the CosmicRayDetector PCB

CosmicRayDetector is an open source PCB design by RobertGawron, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 140 × 80 mm, with 23 components from 8 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the HEF4093B. By type, the board carries 8 connectors, 8 resistors, 2 capacitors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the science & space, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A device designed to detect cosmic rays (primarily muons) using a grid of Geiger-Müller sensors. Cosmic rays are high-energy particles originating from outside the Solar System, making this project a tool for observing their interaction with Earth's atmosphere.

Cosmic radiation consists of a constant stream of high-energy particles originating from deep space. When these particles reach Earth, they collide with atoms in the atmosphere, producing a variety of secondary particles, one of which is the muon. This device is designed to detect these muons using a grid of Geiger tubes, while distinguishing them from Earth's natural background radiation. The goal is to create a more precise muon detection system using digital processing, allowing for enhanced readability and further data analysis on a PC, unlike other projects that rely on analog interfaces.
