From the project

Device for quantitative analyze energy spectra of gamma-ray sources. Allows to study what radioactive isotopes in what quantities are present in measured sample.

The hardware consists of four main parts:

Handles low-level currents produced by the sensor (typically 1uA - 1mA pulses, 10mV - 1V after amplification):

LYSO Scintillator Crystal - Converts gamma rays into visible light pulses through scintillation. The project uses eight crystals, each 22mm x 4mm x 4mm, stacked together into a single crystal assembly with a size of 22mm x 8mm x 16mm. Silicon Photomultiplier: MICROFC-60035-SMT-TR1 SiPM - Converts light pulses from the scintillator crystal into electrical current pulses. The project uses four SiPMs in two channels; each channel contains two…

GammaSpectrometer: common questions

What microcontroller does the GammaSpectrometer use?

The GammaSpectrometer is built around the ICE40HX4K-TQ144, from the FPGA family.

How big is the GammaSpectrometer PCB?

The GammaSpectrometer measures 100 × 100 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the GammaSpectrometer?

291 components, from 40 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the GammaSpectrometer design files?

From the RobertGawron/GammaSpectrometer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the GammaSpectrometer design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which RobertGawron chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the GammaSpectrometer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
