Its main chip is the AO3400A, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MBR0520L, AMS1117-3.3, FT231XQ-R, ESP32-WROOM-32D-N4 and MPU-6050. By type, the board carries 28 resistors, 13 capacitors, 8 transistors, 6 connectors, 5 ICs and 4 diodes.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, iot & wireless and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

PCB ESP32 quadcopter: KiCad hardware + Madgwick IMU firmware + WiFi web UI

A micro-drone: a small square with four arms, each carrying pads for a coreless brushed motor. I designed the whole thing end-to-end — schematic, PCB layout, fabrication files, and my own flight firmware — as a deliberate jump from hardware QA into full-stack embedded development.

It touches the entire embedded stack in one build:

- Electrical design — schematic capture in KiCad (ESP32 + IMU + motor drivers + USB-UART + power path) - PCB layout & DFM — the board doubles as the mechanical frame, ready for JLCPCB turnkey PCBA - Real-time firmware — a fixed-rate control loop, sensor fusion…

Esp32-drone: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp32-drone use?

The Esp32-drone is built around the AO3400A, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp32-drone PCB?

The Esp32-drone measures 43.7 × 43.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp32-drone?

71 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp32-drone design files?

From the Sagaz0501/esp32-drone repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp32-drone design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Sagaz0501 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Esp32-drone without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
