About the Can bus PCB

Can bus is an open source ESP32 PCB design by satspares, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 48 × 42 mm, with 20 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3_SUPERMINI_TH, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the SN65HVD230. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 6 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 diodes and 2 capacitors.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Control and Display for ELTEK Flatpack2

ELTEK Flatpack2 control using ESP32/c3 DWIN Display DMG48320C03503WTC (480x320) or any DWIN TTL 800x480 display eg. DMG80480C04301WTC.

18th September 2025 added config for DWIN Display DMG48270C043_04WTC 480x272 (change link on display to ttl).

Added Eltek network ID change to new menu item.

In the can-bus-kicad directory is a PCB design using ESP32c3 but you can use any ESP32 (5v supply needed) and a sn65hvd230 CAN Chip.

Can bus: common questions

What microcontroller does the Can bus use?

The Can bus is built around the ESP32-C3_SUPERMINI_TH, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Can bus PCB?

The Can bus measures 48 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.600198 mm thick.

How many components are on the Can bus?

20 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Can bus design files?

From the satspares/ELTEK_With_ESP32 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Can bus design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which satspares chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Can bus without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
