About the LBEAST Child Shield
LBEAST Child Shield is an open source ESP32 PCB design by scifiuiguy, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 94.1 × 36.7 mm, with 26 components from 16 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-2x22, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LAN8720A. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 connectors, 4 diodes, 2 ICs and 1 crystal.
It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.
From the project
Location-Based Entertainment Activation Standard Toolkit - designed to streamline deployment of professional-grade multiplayer VR LBE in venues using immersive theater actors, standardized large hydraulics for motion and haptics, embedded systems for button input and small haptic feedback with vibrators and kickers, & AV OSC for lighting and sound.
The Child Shield is a simplified derivative of the Universal Shield (LBUS). It keeps the same ESP32-S3 parent ECU pin map and Ethernet PHY but reduces the aux bus to one RJ45 port and drops CAN entirely. The goal is to provide a tiny, inexpensive parent/child hybrid board for installations that only need a single downstream device or a dedicated “mini LBUS” inside a prop or remote enclosure.

LBEAST Child Shield: common questions
What microcontroller does the LBEAST Child Shield use?
The LBEAST Child Shield is built around the ESP32-S3-2x22, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the LBEAST Child Shield?
The LBEAST Child Shield measures 94.1 × 36.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the LBEAST Child Shield?
26 components, from 16 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the LBEAST Child Shield design files?
From the scifiuiguy/LBEAST_Unreal repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the LBEAST Child Shield design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which scifiuiguy chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the LBEAST Child Shield without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
