About the Left PCB

Left is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by siderakb, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 115.6 × 106.7 mm, with 98 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the RT9013-33GB, SRV05-4 and W25Q128JVS. By type, the board carries 29 diodes, 16 capacitors, 10 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and wearables designs in this gallery.

From the project

ErgoSNM is a split ergonomic keyboard integrated with trackball, wireless is in beta

ErgoSNM \- a split ergonomic keyboard integrated with a trackball, designed to encourage people to leave their mouse behind.

- 64 keys in total. - Left half 29 + 6 keys. - Right half 29 keys + trackball. - Cherry MX style switches, hot-swap available. - USB Type-C. - Column-staggered layout. - The trackball can replace all mouse operations, allowing your right hand to stay on the home row. - Cursor movement and scrolling. - With the Combos feature: - J+K performs the left click - K+L performs the right click - J+L performs the middle click.

Left: common questions

What microcontroller does the Left use?

The Left is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Left PCB?

The Left measures 115.6 × 106.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Left?

98 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Left design files?

From the siderakb/ergo-snm-keyboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Left design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-P-2.0 license, which siderakb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Left without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
