About the RC6502 Terminal PCB

RC6502 Terminal is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.1 × 81.9 mm, with 45 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328_MCU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MC6821, 74LS138 and 74LS00. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 9 resistors, 8 connectors, 5 ICs, 4 diodes and 3 jumpers.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

An expandable SBC-version of the Apple 1 computer, easy to get started with and lot of cool stuff that can be added to it!

Since building and spending time with the excellent RC2014 computer kit, I wanted to build another one from scratch while learning even more about them along the way. Combine that with the love of old machines I'll never be able to own, and the missing knowledge to actually do that I instead started looking for books on how things work on a more basic level.

RC6502 Terminal: common questions

What microcontroller does the RC6502 Terminal use?

The RC6502 Terminal is built around the ATMEGA328_MCU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the RC6502 Terminal PCB?

The RC6502 Terminal measures 99.1 × 81.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RC6502 Terminal?

45 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RC6502 Terminal design files?

From the tebl/RC6502-Apple-1-Replica repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RC6502 Terminal design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which tebl chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RC6502 Terminal without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
