From the project

An expandable SBC-version of the Apple 1 computer, easy to get started with and lot of cool stuff that can be added to it!

Did you ever wonder what the first computer created by Apple was like, and then checked what getting one might cost? Well, only a few were made and those that still exist probably would cost you more than my car! Steve Wozniak built what would later be called the Apple I computer in his garage, using only common over the counter components the result was an interesting computer that still holds the imagination of many computer geeks to this day. I don't own a garage so I was limited by whatever I could do from the confines of my kitchen table, the RC6502 was what I came up with and with the…

RC6502 Apple 1 SBC: common questions

What microcontroller does the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC use?

The RC6502 Apple 1 SBC is built around the Arduino Nano, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC PCB?

The RC6502 Apple 1 SBC measures 99.1 × 99.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC?

48 components, from 32 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC design files?

From the tebl/RC6502-Apple-1-Replica repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which tebl chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RC6502 Apple 1 SBC without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
