About the Fredboard PCB

Fredboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Thebucket-ops, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 51 × 21 mm, with 41 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MCP1700X-330XXTT, W25Q16JVUXIQ TR and MPU-6500. By type, the board carries 20 capacitors, 9 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

A Pi pico devboard

The fredboard is a custom pi pico devboard: - the v2 has a MPU-6500 and has a reboot button with a led to indicate the restart; - the v1 (untested) allows to use all but one pins provided by the rp2040, and has a led to indicate when the devboard is powered

- 2 33pF 0402 capacitors - 13 0.1uF 0402 capacitors - 2 1uF 0402 capacitors - 2 10uF 0603 capacitors - 1 10 nF 0402 capacitor - 1 0402 white led - 1 USBCReceptacleUSB2.014P - 2 pinheaders 1x20 (optional) - 1 pinheader 1x3 (optional) - 2 0402 27 ohm resistors - 1 0402 150 ohm resistor - 3 0402 1K resistors - 2 0402 5.1K resistors - 1 0402…

Fredboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fredboard use?

The Fredboard is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Fredboard PCB?

The Fredboard measures 51 × 21 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fredboard?

41 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fredboard design files?

From the Thebucket-ops/Fredboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fredboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Thebucket-ops chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fredboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
