About the THErocket PCB

THErocket is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Tiladura, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 62.5 × 62 mm, with 25 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MPU-6050, BMP280 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 7 capacitors, 5 resistors, 4 ICs and 2 switches.

It belongs with the sensors and robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

Design and development of my own rocket with implemented TVC and own recovery system.

A simple rocket with a custom PCB, powered by a battery, with two onboard servos for an active recovery system.

- A custom PCB with onboard sensors such as a BMP280 and an IMU - An active recovery system hidden inside the nose cone - A cardboard body tube and fins - A single motor

The goal of this project is to study how sensing and recovery systems can be integrated into a single rocket design.

THErocket: common questions

What microcontroller does the THErocket use?

The THErocket is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32E, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the THErocket PCB?

The THErocket measures 62.5 × 62 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the THErocket?

25 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the THErocket design files?

From the Tiladura/THErocket repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the THErocket design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Tiladura chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the THErocket without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
