About the OpenAlarm PCB

OpenAlarm is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Ultikynnys, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 85 × 72.5 mm, with 48 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MAX98357AETE+T, CH343G and AP7361C-33E-13. By type, the board carries 25 resistors, 12 capacitors, 4 ICs, 3 LEDs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the audio, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open source alarm clock

OpenAlarm is a feature-rich, ESP32-based open-source alarm clock, media player, and IoT device with a web-based management interface. Designed for flexibility and reliability, it combines local audio playback, NTP time synchronization, hardware button control, LCD display support, and a modern responsive web UI.

Bachelor's thesis project by Ubeid Hussein — Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK). Thesis available at Theseus.

OpenAlarm: common questions

What microcontroller does the OpenAlarm use?

The OpenAlarm is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the OpenAlarm PCB?

The OpenAlarm measures 85 × 72.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.69 mm thick.

How many components are on the OpenAlarm?

48 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OpenAlarm design files?

From the Ultikynnys/OpenAlarm repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OpenAlarm design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Ultikynnys chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the OpenAlarm without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
