Silicon diode dosimeter optimized for spacecraft dosimetry

SPACEDOS01B is a semiconductor-based dosimeter launched at Sokrat-R (NORAD ID 44404) satellite, currently orbiting the Earth about 500km above the surface. The device is intended for the measurement of cosmic radiation in mixed ionization fields on board satellites. In the case of manned missions look to SPACEDOS02 or SPACEDOS03.

The device can be purchased from Universal Scientific Technologies s.r.o. Contact us by email at sale@ust.cz for a commercial quotation.

SPACEDOS01: common questions

What microcontroller does the SPACEDOS01 use?

The SPACEDOS01 is built around the ATMEGA1284P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the SPACEDOS01 PCB?

The SPACEDOS01 measures 93.5 × 48.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SPACEDOS01?

79 components, from 33 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SPACEDOS01 design files?

From the UniversalScientificTechnologies/SPACEDOS01 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SPACEDOS01 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which UniversalScientificTechnologies chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SPACEDOS01 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
