About the SnakeTank PCB

SnakeTank is an open source ESP32 PCB design by vpolda, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 80.8 × 37.1 mm, with 46 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the LP2985-3.3 and FT231XS. By type, the board carries 16 resistors, 14 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 diodes and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the sensors, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A DIY reptile tank monitor for remote monitoring and data collection.

A temperature and humidity monitoring system primarly used for reptile terrariums.

A custom ESP32-S3 PCB for temperature and humidity monitoring, along with camera monitoring. Supports up to four (4) external DHT11 sensors. The data can either be monitored through the onboard LCD display or remotely on a wifi device through Arduino Cloud. Two ESP32 Camera modules are attached externally for live video feed.

SnakeTank: common questions

What microcontroller does the SnakeTank use?

The SnakeTank is built around the ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the SnakeTank PCB?

The SnakeTank measures 80.8 × 37.1 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SnakeTank?

46 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SnakeTank design files?

From the vpolda/Snake-Tank repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SnakeTank design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with vpolda. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the SnakeTank without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
