About the Samplooler stack bottom PCB

Samplooler stack bottom is an open source ESP32 PCB design by willbearfruits, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 90 × 64 mm, with 15 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-S3_SuperMini, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the PCM5102A, MPU6050 and KY-023. By type, the board carries 5 connectors, 4 ICs, 3 capacitors, 2 resistors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the audio and sensors designs in this gallery.

A small looper you play by tilting it: ESP32-S3 and ESP32-C3 firmware, circuit boards, a printable case and a browser flasher

Two PCB designs for the ESP32-S3 build. Both are generated from the Python in gen/:

Both use the kit wiring from firmware/main/pins.h, plus these extras:

- Pogo pins to the SuperMini's 20 underside pads, for 20 more GPIOs: 14–18, 21, 33–42 and 45–48. - Breakouts for every spare GPIO: labelled 2.54 mm pads, ready for a header or wires later. Each board has an EXP A and an EXP B. - Qwiic / STEMMA QT (JST-SH, 3.3 V I2C) for sensors and add-ons. - Header for the optional MAX98357A amp, which hangs off the left edge. - DAC strap jumpers and OLED pin-order jumpers, so module variants need no…

Samplooler stack bottom: common questions

What microcontroller does the Samplooler stack bottom use?

The Samplooler stack bottom is built around the ESP32-S3_SuperMini, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Samplooler stack bottom PCB?

The Samplooler stack bottom measures 90 × 64 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Samplooler stack bottom?

15 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Samplooler stack bottom design files?

From the willbearfruits/samplooler repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Samplooler stack bottom design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which willbearfruits chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Samplooler stack bottom without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
