About the Wuard core v1 PCB

Wuard core v1 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by wuard, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 17.8 × 19.9 mm, with 28 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350A-QFN60, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the TROPIC01_CHIP and SSP7615-33DFR. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 7 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Wuard Core v1 pcb project

The Wuard Core v1 is a compact HSM development board designed to empower makers, researchers, and developers working on security and cryptography based projects. It is one of the first open-source cryptographic coprocessor development boards built around the Tropic01 by TropicSquare.

- Dimensions: 19.85 mm × 17.78 mm (0.78 in × 0.7 in) - Form factor: Breadboard-friendly (pitch: 2.54 mm standard for prototyping) - Variants: Available with through-hole pads or pin headers

Wuard core v1: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wuard core v1 use?

The Wuard core v1 is built around the RP2350A-QFN60, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Wuard core v1 PCB?

The Wuard core v1 measures 17.8 × 19.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wuard core v1?

28 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wuard core v1 design files?

From the wuard/Wuard-core-v1-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wuard core v1 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which wuard chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Wuard core v1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
