About the Merlyn435 PCB

Merlyn435 is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by YeetTheAnson, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 30.5 × 30.5 mm, with 69 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP8285H16, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the AT32F435CGU7, SX1281IMLTRT, BMP388(TOKMAS) and MPU-6500. By type, the board carries 41 capacitors, 21 resistors, 5 ICs and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the robotics & motion, power & battery and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

Successor to the Merlyn411 25mm flight controller. The flight stack includes a 3in1 20mm flight controller and a 20mm ESC.

The Merlyn435 also upgrades the IMU from the MPU6500 to the LSM6DSK320X, which provides significantly better vibration noise rejection at $3.8\ \mathrm{mdps}/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ compared to $10\ \mathrm{mdps}/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$. This results in cooler motors and more stable flights with fewer gyro filters, preventing issues such as mid throttle oscillation and flyaways.

Merlyn435: common questions

What microcontroller does the Merlyn435 use?

The Merlyn435 is built around the ESP8285H16, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Merlyn435 PCB?

The Merlyn435 measures 30.5 × 30.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Merlyn435?

69 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Merlyn435 design files?

From the YeetTheAnson/Merlyn435-Flight-Stack repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Merlyn435 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with YeetTheAnson. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Merlyn435 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
