A handheld flashlight built around a Cree XHP50.3 (6 V) LED. The repo holds two threads of work:

1. The power converter (finished, documented in the final report): a discrete, analog, constant-current boost converter that takes 3 V from two alkaline cells up to about 6–6.5 V and regulates the LED at about 1–1.5 A. It uses op-amps, a comparator and a gate driver, with no microcontroller in the loop. It was built as the final project for MIT 6.2222 (fall 2025), including the graduate extension. 2. The product boards (in progress): an STM32 controller with shake-to-wake, a USB-PD charger and…

Flashlight power input dev: common questions

What microcontroller does the Flashlight power input dev use?

The Flashlight power input dev is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Flashlight power input dev PCB?

The Flashlight power input dev measures 100 × 30 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.66 mm thick.

How many components are on the Flashlight power input dev?

89 components, from 50 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Flashlight power input dev design files?

From the ahmadtak-3212/flashlight_project repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Flashlight power input dev design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ahmadtak-3212. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Flashlight power input dev without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
