This folder contains all hardware and firmware deliverables produced during the 2025–26 academic year. It is structured into three top-level areas:

The robot's electronic architecture is split across two custom boards:

The PDU and RCU communicate over a dedicated management CAN bus (250 kbps). The RCU talks to the Thor AI computer (Jetson/PC) over UDP/Ethernet. Motors are driven by the RCU over two 1 Mbps CAN buses using the RobStride RS04 private protocol.

PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit: common questions

What microcontroller does the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit use?

The PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit is built around the ESP32-C3-MINI-1U-H4X, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit PCB?

The PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit measures 79.6 × 61.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit?

137 components, from 60 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit design files?

From the AislingBee/MEng-PROJ500-2025-26 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with AislingBee. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the PROJ500 - Real-Time Control Unit without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
