About the AOILED PCB

AOILED is an open source ESP32 PCB design by aoishik, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 82.1 × 64 mm, with 16 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the SN74AHCT125N and LM2596S-5. By type, the board carries 6 capacitors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 2 diodes, 1 inductor and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the audio, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

A WLED(Audio Reactive) Based LED Strips Controller for 12v LED Strips

I wanted to create a LED strip controller that could be used to control 12v WS2811 LED strips. It also supports audio based effects using WLED'S Audio Reactive Mode. I wanted to use and test the WLED Firmware also.

Believe it or not, this was my third time using Fusion 360 and KiCad! I watched numerous tutorials and guides and did a lot of googling, but in the end, I'm pretty proud of the final product. I had the most struggle figuring out the tolerances and dimensions. Also in KiCad, I had a lot of trouble with footprints and making sure everything was aligned properly and the traces were…

AOILED: common questions

What microcontroller does the AOILED use?

The AOILED is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the AOILED PCB?

The AOILED measures 82.1 × 64 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the AOILED?

16 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the AOILED design files?

From the aoishik/AOILED repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the AOILED design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with aoishik. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the AOILED without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
