About the MZ80PS2 PCB

MZ80PS2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Board-Folk, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 67.1 × 67 mm, with 12 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MT8816. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 diode and 1 resistor.

From the project

Sharp MZ-80K Replica Public

An Arduino based PS/2 keyboard interface with sockets for both a full Arduino Nano or an ATMEGA328P. There is a second mini version of this board with the 328 only which may be more appropriate if you don't intend to modify the code. They use the MT8816 switch chip to simulate the real keyboard. These are easily found on AliExpress.

As there is no 5V power on the keyboard header on the MZ-80K, this requires a separate 5V power connection, the connection presented as an XH header or barrel-jack on the board. XH pin 1 is 5V, pin 2 GND.

MZ80PS2: common questions

What microcontroller does the MZ80PS2 use?

The MZ80PS2 is built around the ATMEGA328, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the MZ80PS2 PCB?

The MZ80PS2 measures 67.1 × 67 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MZ80PS2?

12 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MZ80PS2 design files?

From the Board-Folk/Sharp-MZ-80K repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MZ80PS2 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Board-Folk. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MZ80PS2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
