About the MZ80PS2Mini PCB

MZ80PS2Mini is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Board-Folk, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 56.8 × 67 mm, with 12 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the MT8816. By type, the board carries 4 connectors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 diode and 1 resistor.

Sharp MZ-80K Replica Public

An ATMEGA328P based PS/2 keyboard interface. This is a miniaturized, tidied version of MZ80PS2 just with the ATMEGA328P. Similarly it uses the MT8816 switch chip to simulate the real keyboard.

As there is no 5V power on the keyboard header on the MZ-80K, this requires a separate 5V power connection, the connection presented as an XH header or barrel-jack on the board. XH pin 1 is 5V, pin 2 GND.

MZ80PS2Mini: common questions

What microcontroller does the MZ80PS2Mini use?

The MZ80PS2Mini is built around the ATMEGA328, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the MZ80PS2Mini PCB?

The MZ80PS2Mini measures 56.8 × 67 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MZ80PS2Mini?

12 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MZ80PS2Mini design files?

From the Board-Folk/Sharp-MZ-80K repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MZ80PS2Mini design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Board-Folk. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MZ80PS2Mini without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
