About the Pcb

Pcb is an open source ESP32 PCB design by brainsmoke, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 60 × 50 mm, with 69 components from 19 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROVER, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the STM32F030CCTx, ME6211C33M5G-N, STM32F042F4Px and 74HCT245. By type, the board carries 38 resistors, 12 capacitors, 8 ICs, 7 connectors, 2 jumpers and 2 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

Renamed from esp32leddriver because it also contains code and PCBs for other MCUs

- 60 FPS 16bit/color (48bit) animation with some routines written in C for speed.

- Animations use 3D-coordinates of the LEDs, as well as the direction they're pointing at

- Gamma correction & support for multiple LED orderings.

- Cached animation frames to prevent garbage collection hiccups

- Web interface (HTTPS capable, but no automatic cert. updates)

Pcb: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pcb use?

The Pcb is built around the ESP32-WROVER, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Pcb?

The Pcb measures 60 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pcb?

69 components, from 19 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pcb design files?

From the brainsmoke/leddriver3d repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pcb design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with brainsmoke. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pcb without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
